Child Transferred to Orphanage Specializing in HIV Care
‘Tis a bitter sweet day for the Wando family.
Wando International’s Babies’ Home located in in Njeru, Uganda is home to 21 beautiful children. Some of these children were abandoned completely and some have come from dangerous environments where they weren’t receiving adequate care.
One such child who was near death when we discovered him was baby Thomas.
Tom was brought into our home at the beginning of this year. His journey has been filled with ups and downs, mainly due to his health. Thomas is HIV+ which has caused him to endure a multitude of issues, more recently severe breathing problems and the inability to pass stool.
Tom has had to be rushed to the hospital a few times, but hopes were high when he was released back home in mid-November. With Thomas’ health condition seeming to be hanging in the balance we realized he would be better served by an organization specializing in the care of children living with HIV.
On December 14th baby Tom was transferred from the care of Wando International to the specialized care of Cherish Uganda.
Cherish Uganda is a wonderful Christian organization that is home to over 50 children living with HIV and is located near Maildmay Hospital in Entebbe where Tom will be receiving ongoing medical treatment.
Although we hate to see Tom leave the babies’ home, the decision to put him in the best hands possible wasn’t difficult.
This truly is the best place for Tom as he will get the specialized care he needs to be healthy and thrive.
Mamas, aunties, and all the kids at home said their goodbyes as the team from Cherish Uganda came and met Tom to take him to his new home. It was both sad and joyous to say goodbye.
Upon Thomas’ arrival to Cherish, the other children and staff were waiting eagerly to greet him!
Thomas was given a warm welcome.
Wando International case workers will continue to follow up with Cherish Uganda to see that Thomas is doing well in his new home.
