Learn About Our Other New Baby, Ikoru Blessing

At Wando International we know our work can only be completed by establishing long-lasting, trust-based relationships within the local community. Through years of service community members have learned that we are here to serve and help them. That’s why, when a week or so ago we received information about a baby boy who needed help, our social workers went out right away to investigate.

They learned baby Tom Izakale lived with his grandmother because his mother abandoned him. Likely out of shame, she never disclosed who Tom’s father was, so the grandmother, who makes a living by fetching water for local brewers, has been caring for him since last July. It hasn’t been easy and Tom’s malnutrition and underdeveloped motor skills show how he has suffered.

With little for herself, Tom’s grandmother can no longer care for him and has entrusted us with his care. While most might think this is a sad situation, we celebrate because we can provide Tom with everything needed to grow into a strong, healthy boy, yet are committed to keeping him in touch with his grandmother through home visits.

Stay tuned for updates on Tom and please remember to keep him and the country of Uganda in your prayers.
