Why Business is Better for Uganda Women
Create entrepreneurship, NOT dependence.
We talk a lot about the issues surrounding women living in Extreme Poverty in Uganda.
From living in the slums and surviving by means of prostitution, to even being forced to give up a child.
There are programs out there that assist with necessities like food and healthcare. But, we see time and time again, the very people who are being “helped” with goods and services like these end up becoming dependent on them, crippled to ever getting off the need for them.
This creates a detrimental, lasting effect on not only their physiological state but their psychological state as well.
Many become conditioned to this way of life, living dependent on someone else to take care of them.
But what is the solution?
The answer is simple.
One word actually…BUSINESS.
The ONLY way to truly help someone lift themselves out of the cycle of poverty, is to help them create a business for themselves. THEN, connect them to the Global Marketplace.
Wando International believes strongly in this, which is why we’ve implemented a Business Development program for 60 WOMEN in Uganda.
Our Bead Program has taken women with NO skills and NO education, and taught them the skill of rolling colorful beads out of 100% recycled paper.
They take those beads and craft them into works of wearable art. Jewelry that can be sold to anyone looking to wear something that doesn’t just look great, but has a deeper meaning.
This jewelry directly impacts a woman’s life when you purchase it.
Women’s Bead Program Cultivating Independence in Uganda
Bead Partners like ZAINA don’t have to worry about whether or not her children can go to school this year. She can send them herself, because she now has a business that allows her to provide for herself.
NOT having to be dependent on anybody but herself.
By teaching these women a skill they can generate income with, AND connecting them to the resources needed to sell their handmade products internationally, they now have a viable way to ESCAPE the slums.
It isn’t enough to just teach these women how to make a good, if that good stays in the environment they’re are trying to escape.
By partnering with Wando International, our 60 women now have a platform to Showcase, Market, and Sell their jewelry to women around the world.
NOW they can put their kids in school, provide for their families, and have a SAFE home to live in.
