Nonprofit Participates in Outreach for Azusa City Residents

Joining forces Easter Weekend!

We sure did, because this past Saturday Wando International joined forces with Azusa First Assembly Church who put on an incredible event for City of Azusa residents.

We were extended the invite by Azusa First’s Pastor, Jerry Jefferson, who we’ve gotten to know and build a special relationship with now over the past 9 months.

Not only has he welcomed us to come share OUR MISSION of empowering Widows and Orphans in Uganda with his congregation, but he and his family have continued to support our work by helping us raise awareness and attending our own local events in Azusa like the Eat For Change fundraiser we hosted with Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Pastor Jerry sharing the meaning of Easter with the kids!

When Pastor Jerry told us about his congregation’s plans to provide FREE food, carnival games, live music, and an Easter egg hunt for the community we were all in to show our support!

Easter Outreach for Azusa Families

THE EASTER OUTREACH event was specifically for families in the community of Azusa with an emphasis on fun activities for the kids.  Everything from face painting, to having a bounce-house, an Egg hunt, and even limbo!  The kids had a blast.

In the community of Azusa there is a great deal of families, especially those being raised by single moms, who are dealing with financial challenges and are unable to spend a lot on providing an Easter celebration for their kids.  So this was a really great way Azusa First Church was able to give back and make that possible for them.

Wando International’s participation at the event was to reach out to these families in need.

By having our own booth, which was decorated with beautifully handcrafted jewelry made by our Women Bead Partners in Uganda, we were able to share with people how exactly we EMPOWER people experiencing poverty around the world through programs such as Skills and Business-Development.

The major takeaway we wanted to leave people with was to inform them that our nonprofit organization is a resource for them in their local neighborhood.

Just one block up and around the corner from Azusa First Church located on Azusa Ave. and Foothill Blvd., Wando International offers FREE workshops and career advisory services to help them with their career development should they be in need of assistance.

Our mission is to empower those living in poverty with the skills needed to survive and thrive!

Serving the Needs of the Azusa Community

SERVING THE NEEDS of the community in Azusa, California is a calling for both Azusa First Church and Wando International.

Continuing our efforts to serve in this area both individually and TOGETHER IS A BLESSING.

We look forward to many more engagements like these to build relationships in the community AND most importantly, letting people know about the resources available to them.  For a list of scheduled events over at Azusa First Assembly of God, go check out their Monthly Calendar.

If you’re an Azusa local, come check out Wando International’s headquarters AND contact our Team Member Elizabeth to find out when the next FREE Career-Development Workshop is!

About the Author:

In 2007, Elizabeth experienced a jarring shift going from serving self to serving others. She found her calling and started seeking opportunities to connect with different Non-Profit organizations that help their communities both locally and abroad. She got involved with local outreach as a mentor helping youth build self-confidence and find a more fulfilling life through service. She then traveled to Haiti on a mission to cultivate relationships with people experiencing extreme poverty and align herself with the organizations doing something to help. Her most valuable lesson learned was that relationships can and should always be Win/Win. Finding common ground and mutually beneficial opportunities is where she finds the real magic. In 2014 Elizabeth learned the story of Michelle Huo, founder of 501c3 organizations Urban Connection and Wando International. She saw that Michelle’s work was different in the way that it actually empowered others to shift the course of their lives. This resonated so deeply with Elizabeth that she joined Michelle in 2015 to help her achieve her vision. Elizabeth is now working to help students in third world countries like Uganda learn the skills that businesses and Non-Profit organizations around the world want and need. In demand skills like driving traffic, raising awareness, and converting leads. By strategically partnering these students with SMB and Non-Profit organizations, they become empowered to lift themselves out of poverty while organizations benefit from increased revenue generation.
