Top 5 Reasons to Join Nonprofit Running Team

Race to Empower

Sunday morning training sessions at Bonelli Park in San Dimas.

If you follow us already you’ve probably seen us share about some of the different ways to get involved with our nonprofit both locally and internationally in Uganda.  We love opening up volunteer opportunities for PASSIONATE PEOPLE to serve alongside us.

Here’s one way to get involved with our organization you might not have considered:  Join our Running Team!

We’re going to share with you the Top 5 Reasons why joining Wando International’s running team will not only get you feeling good physically, but will also help you feel good about what you’re doing to make an impact AND who you’re making an impact with.

  1. COMMUNITY
    • Joining our running team, the Wando Bead Runners, is like becoming a member of the family.  We can’t do what we do alone, so all who decide to tread this road with us become invaluable parts of the greater whole of our community.  Wando International wants to run alongside, live alongside, and serve alongside other like-minded individuals who also share a PASSION to help those in need.
  2. HEALTHIER LIVING
    • Signing up to do a race, like the Renegade 5K Trail Run Challenge Team Bead Runners is doing May 6th, is the fastest way to remove all the distractions and excuses that keep you from getting up and out the door to get your exercise in.  Having that official race date on the calendar almost forces you to make sure you get your exercise time in.  We’ve all heard it before:  “A body in motion tends to stay in motion.”  Having a regular team running day and your own individual training days can set you on a path to making even more small changes in your day to day that end up making a HUGE impact to your overall health.
  3. ENCOURAGEMENT + SUPPORT
    • Running with the Wando Bead Runners is all about supporting each other mile for mile, and never leaving anyone behind.  Our team is made up of all shapes and sizes, skill levels and ages.  It doesn’t matter who you are or what level you’re at, our running team members and captains will encourage you every step of the way and remind you of how AWESOME you are.  Why are you so awesome?  Because you’re not just getting fit, you’re supporting a great cause too by helping Widows and Orphans!
  4. ACCOUNTABILITY
    • We’ve all been there.  The morning alarm goes off for you to throw on your running clothes, and all you want to do is stay curled up in bed and go back to sleep.  But how could you fall in that trap when you know your support system is on their way to go push themselves and sweat alongside you?!  It’s nearly impossible. Being a member of our nonprofit running team will not only help keep you accountable to your own fitness goals, but it will help you stay accountable to the team’s mission which is to Empower people around the world living in Extreme Poverty.
  5. IMPACTING A CAUSE
    • Last but certainly not least.  By joining our nonprofit running team you will be running for a cause!  By sharing your journey with others and the reason why you run, you will be raising awareness and support for projects that change lives in Uganda.  People are motivated to support the “doers”.  By being someone who is actually doing something to help others, your friends, family, and colleagues will be excited to support your efforts, and who knows…they might even join the team, OR support the cause by sponsoring you!

TEAM BEAD RUNNERS meets weekly at Bonelli Park in San Dimas to train, encourage and motivate each other, all while empowering others to lift themselves out of poverty.

About the Author:

In 2007, Elizabeth experienced a jarring shift going from serving self to serving others. She found her calling and started seeking opportunities to connect with different Non-Profit organizations that help their communities both locally and abroad. She got involved with local outreach as a mentor helping youth build self-confidence and find a more fulfilling life through service. She then traveled to Haiti on a mission to cultivate relationships with people experiencing extreme poverty and align herself with the organizations doing something to help. Her most valuable lesson learned was that relationships can and should always be Win/Win. Finding common ground and mutually beneficial opportunities is where she finds the real magic. In 2014 Elizabeth learned the story of Michelle Huo, founder of 501c3 organizations Urban Connection and Wando International. She saw that Michelle’s work was different in the way that it actually empowered others to shift the course of their lives. This resonated so deeply with Elizabeth that she joined Michelle in 2015 to help her achieve her vision. Elizabeth is now working to help students in third world countries like Uganda learn the skills that businesses and Non-Profit organizations around the world want and need. In demand skills like driving traffic, raising awareness, and converting leads. By strategically partnering these students with SMB and Non-Profit organizations, they become empowered to lift themselves out of poverty while organizations benefit from increased revenue generation.
